T20 World Cup 2024: White House sends congratulatory message to USA team ahead of Super 8 matches
"We all congratulate them on their success," said White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby.
The co-hosts of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the USA, have come forward as one of the biggest dark horses of the tournament. Being drawn in Group A of the tournament alongside the likes of India, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada, the USA managed to put in excellent performances and finished in second place in the group qualifying for the Super Eight.
With their massive achievement came a congratulatory message from the White House. The USA cricket team took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a clip of National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby congratulating the side.
“Thank you @WhiteHouse National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby for your kind words. We’ll be sure to use your encouragement as motivation for our upcoming matches in the West Indies!” USA cricket captioned the tweet.
In the clip shared, John Kirby stated how amazing it was that the team managed to reach the Super Eight and highlighted both his and President Joe Biden’s happiness over the same.
“We all congratulate them on their success. It’s tremendous and we are all cheering them on. Congratulations to them, I saw that they are in the Super Eight now. It’s amazing,” Kirby said.
They’ve been really good: Aiden Markram
The USA is slated to take on in-form South Africa for their first Super Eight game of the T20 World Cup 2024. Both sides will lock horns at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, in the 41st game of the tournament on Wednesday, June 19.
Ahead of the clash, South African skipper Aiden Markram took centre stage and reflected on how good the USA has been in the tournament so far and how they will be giving it their best effort against the co-hosts.
“They’ve been really good. I think not just them but a lot of the people will sort of say smaller nations, but they’ve proved that they’re not a small team anymore. So, we’re going to 100 per cent have to be on our best game and hopefully things go well, but I’m excited for that challenge,” Markam was quoted as saying by News18.
