Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a stunner in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa to dismiss David Miller in the ultimate over. Thanks to his top-notch athleticism, the catch propelled the Indian team closer to the coveted title. Tabraiz Shamsi, who was part of the South African team in the final, has found himself in hot water with a tongue-in-a-cheek remark that has not gone down well with the Indian fans.

Suryakumar ran almost 80 meters to orchestrate one of the brilliant catches under pressure as there was a hairline gap between his foot and the boundary line. After several replays, the Third Umpire decided the grab to be legitimate. However, many fans on social media replicated the incident with their versions, and one of those parody videos shared by Shamsi seemed to take a jibe at the iconic moment.

“If they used this method to check the catch in the World Cup final maybe it would have been given not out,” wrote Shamsi on his X account.

Here’s Shamsi’s latest post on ‘X’:

It's meant to be a joke and no one is crying: Shamsi

Speaking of the spinner, several current and former cricketers ruled against Shamsi’s inclusion in the playing XI for the final. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Robin Uthappa had termed the leggie as chink in Proteas’ armour. However, the 34-year-old bowled three overs and conceded 26 runs with no wicket to his name.

Coming back to the social media poke, the South African spinner issued a clarification after fans galore in his comment section and inbox. He went on to add that the comments were on a lighter note and it was a mere joke.
