Team India is eyeing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title as they have reached the final of the 2023 edition of the tournament with wins in the Super Four stage against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. After the Asia Cup, they will be heading back home to play a three-match ODI series against Australia, which will serve as a final dress rehearsal ahead of the 50-over World Cup in October-November.

India have performed consistently well across formats in recent times and that is why they are the only team to be a part of the top three rankings in Tests, ODIs, as well as T20Is. In the longest and shortest formats of the game, the 'Men in Blue' hold the No. 1 spot, while in ODIs, they are placed behind Pakistan and Australia at No. 3. India came into the Asia Cup 2023 on the back of a 2-0 T20I series win against Ireland, where some fringe players were given a go. Prior to this, they lost a five-match T20I series against the West Indies 2-3. However, they won both the ODI and Test legs of the multi-format campaign in the Caribbean.

India would love to add an ICC trophy to their cabinet, something that has eluded them since their triumphant campaign in the Champions Trophy back in 2013. They came very close to adding one earlier this year as they played in the finals of the World Test Championship. However, the mighty Australian team got the better of them at the Kennington Oval.

India only team with three batters in top 10 ODI rankings

One of the reasons behind India's success, over the years, has been their strong top order. The trend continues with the trio of captain Rohit Sharma, the talented Shubman Gill, and the talismanic Virat Kohli. All three players are averaging well in excess of 50 in 2023.

Gill is ranked at a career-high No. 2 at the moment while Virat is at No. 8, followed by Rohit at No. 9. Indian fans would be hoping for this troika to continue their purple patch with the World Cup on the horizon.
