In a recent viral video, South African players were captured attempting to pronounce the tongue-twisting name "Thiruvananthapuram." While many cricketers often try their hand at embracing the linguistic diversity that India offers, it's not always a walk in the park. However, there are those who rise to the challenge with aplomb, and one such addition to the ever-growing list is New Zealand's pace sensation, Lockie Ferguson.
The right-arm pacer, known for his express pace and fiery spells on the field, recently showcased a different side of himself in a viral video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, October 2, amid the ongoing World Cup warm-ups. The video featured Ferguson attempting a famous dialogue from the iconic 2001 Bollywood sports drama 'Lagaan,' starring none other than Aamir Khan. This cinematic masterpiece also boasted the talents of British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne.
In the amusing clip posted by the ICC on their Instagram account, the 32-year-old could be initially seen struggling to grasp the unfamiliar words. However, true to his competitive spirit, he persevered and delivered the famous line from the movie with impeccable style, saying, "Teen guna Lagaan dena padega" (translation: "Three times the tax has to be paid"), leaving fans and fellow cricketers in splits.
The ICC, in its characteristic wit, captioned the video as "Lockie Ferguson X The movie Lagaan," to which Ferguson responded in jest, "Still fixing my hair," displaying his trademark humor.

Ferguson is set to make an impact at the World Cup 2023
Turning our attention to the cricketing arena, the Auckland-born cricketer's recent performances have been nothing short of commendable. In the warm-up game against Pakistan, he showcased his prowess by finishing with figures of 1/34. The 32-year-old fast bowler also led the Kiwis in the ODI series against Bangladesh, where he scalped two crucial wickets in as many games. In the year 2023, he has accounted for eight wickets in 11 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 5.99.
Having plied his trade for various franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), including the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gujarat Titans (GT), and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Ferguson is well-versed with the nuances of subcontinental conditions. As the marquee ICC event unfolds, Ferguson will undoubtedly look to harness his experience and skill to make a significant impact.
