India captain Rohit Sharma is under the scanner after dismal performances in the Tests. The right-handed batter scored just 91 runs in three matches against New Zealand at an average of 15.16. He was expected to come among runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but the poor form seems to have stuck to the India opener, as his struggle has become the talk of the town.
In five innings of the ongoing series, he has scored just 31 runs at an average of 28.8. Moreover, his captaincy is also being questioned as the team has won a single game out of last six Test he had led the team in. Subsequently, there were rumours that the 37-year-old might announce his Test retirement right after the Sydney Test. An Instagram post from Rohit on December 31 reflecting on the year passed has sparked the speculations as he has captioned the post as “Thank You 2024”.
"For all the ups & downs, and everything in between, Thank you 2024," Rohit wrote on Instagram.

Our fate is no longer in our hands: Aakash Chopra
Led by Rohit, India are in dire need to win the upcoming Sydney Test, scheduled to commence from January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After their loss to Australia in Melbourne, the hosts have a lead of 2-1 in the series and India have failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in 10 years. Moreover, their hopes of making it to the World Test Championship 2025 finals will also be in jeopardy if they fail to win the fifth Test in Sydney.
"Our fate is no longer in our hands. We cannot win the series from here. Our hopes will remain alive if we win (the last Test). We can't lose this series. For Australia, if the last match is a draw, they will have to avoid defeat in at least one game against Sri Lanka," said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
