As Australia took on South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to commence the Boxing Day Test on December 26, it was a special day for David Warner as the game marked his 100th Test. The stalwart made his debut 11 years ago, in December 2011 and since then, he has developed into one of the best openers in the game, scoring 24 hundred in the process.
In the longest format of the game, Warner has notched up 7922 runs in 99 games with his highest score being an unbeaten 335*. He has maintained a good average of 45.52 and has 34 half-centuries, alongside the 24 centuries. Warner has also bowled on rare occasions and has four Test wickets to his name.
On this special day, Warner penned a heartfelt note ahead of the start of the second Test between Australia and South Africa, as he took to his official Instagram account and wrote:
“The little things we dream of!! One test match and a Baggy green. Now playing my 100th, words can not explain. Game day, let’s go!!”

His teammate Glenn Maxwell wished him luck as he commented “Go well Bull”, while West Indies cricketer Darren Bravo wrote “Congratulations to you fren. Boxhead.”
The 36-year-old has been going through a slump and his form with the bat has seen a downward graph recently. Though he has been struggling on the field, his struggles off the field too are taking a toll on him. But Warner is confident enough to make a good comeback and put up an exciting performance in the upcoming games.
Australia are leading the three-match series by 1-0 and will be looking for a series whitewash. They are currently the strongest contenders to play the World Test Championship finals, and a win in this series will take them close to sealing the berth. After the South Africa games, their next stint will be against India, where the two sides will play four games in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between February and March 2023.
