'The new stadium will be our lucky charm' - PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan on new home ground in Mullanpur
The skipper of the Punjab Kings, Shikhar Dhawan, expresses his ambitions for the upcoming IPL season.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) are gearing up for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is days away from commencement. The franchise has always had a star-studded squad over the years, but is yet to get their hands on the prized silverware.
The 2023 season also turned out to be forgettable for them, as they finished eighth on the table, winning six and losing eight games, respectively. However, the franchise will be hopeful for a fresh start and skipper Shikhar Dhawan has shown a great sense of optimism for the upcoming edition.
At the franchise's jersey launch event on Saturday, March 16, the skipper radiated hope for a change in fortunes and stated that the entire huddle is optimistic for a positive showing. It is worth mentioning that PBKS open their 2024 campaign with an afternoon clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, March 23. The match will be held at the newly built PCA Maharaj Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur — a ground where Punjab find their new home.
Meanwhile, Shikhar anticipates a change of home ground to be their lucky charm. In a rather earnest admittance, the southpaw expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mohali, the fans who've come to support the franchise to the ground over the years, as well as its groundsmen.

“The new (Mullanpur) stadium will be our lucky charm. We are trying to think positively. We are very grateful to Mohali, and we thank the Mohali stadium, its groundsmen,” Dhawan said at the jersey launch event.
World-class facilities at Mullanpur's latest cricketing arena
The ground in Mullanpur has been constructed with an intention to serve as the new undertaking of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). As a potential international venue, the ground has been studded with world-class facilities, which allows cricketers to be in their best shape when taking the field. A media release by the franchise indicated a highly-effective drainage system at the ground.
“The Mullanpur stadium has a well-equipped herringbone drainage system, which helps in removal of water within 25–30 minutes after the rain stops. Instead of using traditional soil, the ground is made of sand, which is difficult to maintain, but provides good stability. It is equipped with two international-standard dressing rooms having facilities for steam, sauna and ice bath, while a world-class gym has also been set up at this complex,” the release stated.
