West Indies got knocked out from the race for qualification for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup after suffering a seven-wicket defeat against Scotland at the Harare Sports Club on July 1 in the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifiers. Notably, the two-time champions were eliminated after losing three consecutive games against Zimbabwe, the Netherlands and Scotland.
Lamenting the scenario, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has said that West Indies' downfall should be an example for everyone in world cricket. The 42-year-old stated that nothing is granted in the professional world and that growth in infrastructure and proper player management are critical factors for teams to be competitive at the international level.
"Downfall of West Indies cricket should be a lesson for all. Nothing granted in professional world. Infrastructural development & right management of the players r important ingredients to stay tall at international level. Two times world champions r out of the cricket worldcup 2023," Hafeez tweeted.
