Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as India's T20I captain for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. This decision by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sparked excitement and curiosity among fans. Yadav, known for his exceptional batting skills in the shortest format of the game, now faces the challenge of leading the national team.

The BCCI recently announced India's ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka tour, set to begin on July 27. While Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI setup, Yadav has been handed the reins of the T20I team, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. This decision comes as a surprise to many, considering the presence of Hardik Pandya in the T20I lineup, who has previously led the side. Yadav's reaction to this new responsibility has been one of gratitude and excitement.

“Thank you so much for outpouring love, support, and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for the country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words. This new role brings with it, a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope to keep receiving your support and blessings. All fame reaches God, God is great,” Suryakumar mentioned in his post on Instagram.

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav's exceptional form in T20 cricket and previous experience of leading Team India in seven matches during Pandya's absence in 2023 likely contributed to this decision. Gautam Gambhir, the current Indian head coach, has been vocal about Yadav's leadership qualities since their time together at Kolkata Knight Riders. The upcoming tour will be a test of the prolific batter's leadership skills.
