There have been many cricketers who have succeeded in creating a good first impression after bursting onto the scene at the international level and staying there due to consistency. However, there have also been many players who had to wait patiently in the line and keep on proving themselves by toiling hard for years before finally reaping the fruits of hard work.
Jaydev Unadkat is one such example and finally, he gets a chance to be in India’s Test squad against Bangladesh starting Wednesday, December 14. The left-arm pacer has replaced Mohammed Shami who injured his bowling arm while training and has been ruled out.
Meanwhile, Unadkat’s joy knew no bounds after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed his name for the Indian Test squad that he took to Twitter and came up with an emotional post thanking everyone who kept believing in him and supporting him.
Okay, looks like its real!- Jaydev Unadkat
“Okay, looks like its real! This one’s for all those who have kept believing & supporting me.. I am grateful #267,” Unadkat tweeted.

After 12 long years, the tall pacer will finally be donning the India jersey and he would be looking forward to treasure every bit of these priceless moments by making the ball do the talking. The Gujarat cricketer has made his only Test appearance during the 2010/11 tour of South Africa and made his debut in the Centurion Test match. He went wicketless in that contest and conceded 101 runs.
However, Jaydev Unadkat has come a long way and is one of the most accomplished bowlers in Indian domestic cricket. His best phase happened to be during the 2019/20 season of the Ranji Trophy where he not only led Saurashtra to a title but also registered 67 scalps to his name which is the second most for a bowler in a single edition of the prestigious tournament.
After a 1-2 defeat in the ODI series, the Indian team would now be looking to make amends by coming out on top in the two-match Test series.
