‘So happy and proud of you’ - Tilak Varma congratulates Dewald Brevis on maiden South Africa call-up

Youngster Tilak Varma took to Instagram to congratulate Dewald Brevis on his maiden South Africa call-up for the upcoming series against Australia. Notably, the duo share an excellent camaraderie as Brevis recently congratulated Tilak on his India debut. The 20-year-old later replied back thanking him and stating the origin of their relationship in the Mumbai Indians camp.

Meanwhile, Tilak shared a screenshot of their video call on Instagram and stated that he is very happy and proud of Brevis’ progress. The youngster meanwhile is among Donovan Ferreira, Gerald Coetzee and Matthew Breetzke who earned their maiden T20I call ups while Brevis will also feature in the five-match ODI series and if he manages to prove a point, the cricketer can very well earn a ticket to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5.

Tilak Varma in race to make it to the ODI squad

With KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer currently recovering from their respective injuries, Tilak Varma’s name has popped up as a potential replacement for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Notably, in the T20I series against West Indies, the 20-year-old has shown a lot of conviction and hence, many former cricketers have batted in his favour to make it to the 15-member squad.

Next up, the Hyderabad-born cricketer will play against Ireland and his form will be closely monitored in the three-match series. If he manages to make a mark, Tilak can very well make it to the Asia Cup squad as Shreyas Iyer looks very unlikely to make it to the continental cup. Thus, there is an opportunity for Tilak and it needs to be seen whether the cricketer can cash in. Recently, he was also given the ball in the fifth T20I against West Indies and hence, the team management is keeping him absolutely ready.
