New Zealand pace spearhead Trent Boult registered his first Big Bash League (BBL) wicket in the curtain-raiser of the ongoing tournament between the Melbourne Stars and the Sydney Thunder at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday, December 13. However, it was the manner in which the left-arm pacer registered his maiden scalp in this competition that stood out the most.

This happened on the second delivery of the first over when Boult had bowled at the legs of the wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Gilkes who looked to work the ball towards the leg-side targeting the vacant boundary.

Nonetheless, the batter did not time the ball well and it went straight into the hands of Brody Couch who was stationed at short fine leg. On the first attempt, the ball juggled from the fielder’s hands when he went down, but he showed a great presence of mind and successfully held on to it without taking the eyes off the ball as Trent Boult’s hands went up in delight. Boult had sprinted towards the striker’s end with curiosity and heaved a sigh of relief after the catch was successfully completed.

“Oh dropped, oh no, have you seen a catch like that?,” wondered the astonished commentators as Trent Boult celebrated his maiden BBL scalp.

The video of this spectacular catch was posted by the Big Bash League on their official Twitter handle. Take a look.

A memorable outing for Trent Boult, but a forgettable one for Melbourne Stars

Trent Boult had a memorable contest as he not only made an impact in the wickets column but also bowled an economical spell to finish with figures of 2/21 from his four overs at an economy of 5.3, but his contributions with the ball in hand didn't turn fruitful to help the Melbourne Stars in winning the match as they went down by one wicket.

In a low-scoring thriller, the Stars were restricted to 122/8 and the Sydney Thunder got the job done on the final ball of the game.
