The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin on March 22. The marquee tournament has always provided the fans with many memorable moments over the years, and the IPL 2024 promises to do the same as well.
With the new season of the competition beginning soon, let us have a look at the various iconic firsts of the IPL. It is worth noting that the very first ball of the tournament was bowled by Praveen Kumar in 2008. The first ball was faced by the former India legend and captain, Sourav Ganguly.
Former Kiwi batter Brendon McCullum hit the very first six of the IPL, with Zaheer Khan taking the first wicket. Shaun Marsh ended up being the first recipient of the orange cap. While the first purple cap was won by Sohail Tanvir. In another notable accolade, a young Shreevats Goswami ended up as the very first emerging player, with Besides, in the latest addition to iconic firsts, in the IPL 2023 edition, Chennai Super Kings' Tushar Deshpande was the first ever impact player in the IPL history.

CSK take on RCB in IPL 2024 season opener
Speaking of the IPL 2024, the 17th edition of the marquee tournament is all set to kick off on March 22 and the season opener of the competition will see defending champions Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.

Under the new leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai Super Kings will aim to perform similar to their showings in the IPL 2023, where the side managed to go all the way and clinched their fifth title defeating Gujarat Titans in the summit clash. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a season to forget in the IPL 2023, missing out on the knockout stages of the competition. However, under Faf du Plessis' leadership, RCB will strive to do better.
