'Turning the tide after 12 yrs at Wankhede' - Gautam Gambhir lauds Kolkata Knight Riders’ show against Mumbai Indians
KKR defeated MI by 24 runs in the latest IPL 2024 game.
Kolkata Knight Riders registered a brilliant victory in their latest IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians. Both sides locked horns in the 51st game of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 3.
The clash began with KKR batting first, and despite struggling with the bat, the knocks of Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey, who scored 70 and 42 runs, respectively, saw the two-time champions post a total of 169 runs in the first innings.
As for the second innings, KKR put in a brilliant performance with the ball to limit Mumbai Indians’ batters. The five-time champions were bundled out for a total of 145 runs in the second innings as MI lost the game by 24 runs.
After the game, Kolkata Knight Riders’ mentor, Gautam Gambhir, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to talk about his side’s performance against MI. It is worth noting that prior to the game, MI led KKR 9-1 at the iconic venue, however, KKR put in a brilliant showing and registered a memorable win at the Wankhede. “Turning the tide after 12 yrs at Wankhede! Beautifully done boys!” Gambhir tweeted.
Kolkata Knight Riders maintain their second place in IPL 2024 standings
Speaking of Kolkata Knight Riders, the side’s win against Mumbai Indians saw them maintain their spot in the IPL 2024 standings. Having played 10 games in the tournament so far, KKR has managed to register seven wins and three losses. With 14 points, the two-time champions sit in second place in the standings and are just two points behind table-toppers Rajasthan Royals.
As for Mumbai Indians, the loss against KKR was their eighth loss of the season. The five-time champions find themselves in ninth place in the standings with three wins and eight losses in 11 matches.
