This century marks Rohit Sharma's seventh in the tournament, placing him at the top of the list. Previously, he was tied with Sachin Tendulkar with six centuries, but he played a remarkable innings against Afghanistan to achieve this milestone.
Furthermore, Rohit Sharma has become the fastest Indian to score a century in the ODI World Cup, achieving it in just 63 balls. This record was previously held by Kapil Dev, who scored a World Cup century in 72 balls. The crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi stood up to applaud Rohit Sharma's incredible achievement.
In terms of the most centuries in the ICC World Cup, Rohit Sharma now holds the top position with seven centuries. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian cricketer, is in second place with six centuries, followed by Sri Lanka's former captain Kumar Sangakkara with five centuries. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and Australian opener David Warner are in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with five and four centuries each in the ICC World Cup.
India had a strong start against Afghanistan, chasing a target of 273 runs. The opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan reached 156. However, Ishan Kishan fell just short of his half-century when spinner Rashid Khan dismissed him for 47.
Currently, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer are at the crease, and Rohit was dismissed with a score of 130. India are in a strong position and will aim to finish the match quickly to secure a superior net run rate (NRR).
