There must've been a big sigh of relief from those supporting the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to field first. RCB have had a start to forget in the 17th edition of the marquee tournament, with them winning only a single game (which was while chasing) in six games ahead of their clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The batting lineup of SRH was dangerous nonetheless, with them already having set a monumental IPL record of posting the highest total ever, which came not even three weeks prior to the highly-anticipated clash at the Chinnaswamy. However, no one really expected the carnage which ultimately ensued post the commencement of the fixture.

The first over saw Abhishek Sharma take the bulk of the strike, with Head facing only a single ball, with SRH's score being 7/0. What followed was pure mayhem for RCB, with Sharma and Head going all guns blazing. Head's second and third deliveries were dispatched by him for a four and a six, which in all honesty, set the tempo for absolute annihilation to follow.

Head was kept relatively quiet by Will Jacks and Yash Dayal in SRH's third and fourth overs, respectively, with Head on a score of 16 off 11 at the end of the fourth over. Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson was welcomed into the attack by the southpaw with total disdain, smashing two consecutive maximums over deep square-leg and deep midwicket, respectively, before finishing off the over with a four directed to the long-off fence.

The Aussie southpaw marched to a 20-ball half-century by lambasting one through the covers, aided by a slight misfield. The English offie which Head hadn't taken apart yet, was blasted in the seventh over of the innings by 17 runs, courtesy of Head's willow.

Head clobbered three fours on the bounce off Dayal's bowling, on his way to a maiden hundred in the IPL, off just 39 deliveries, with this being the fourth-fastest ton scored in the history of the IPL. Head was unfortunately dismissed on the third ball of the 12th over off a subtle knuckle ball which was skied to du Plessis at mid-off, and it was an absolute shame for him to get dismissed with over seven overs to spare on his highest T20 score of 102 (41), eclipsing his previous best which came a whole nine years ago in the BBL.

What promised so much more, was cut short in an innings which gave every indication to break a bunch of other records for sure. However, rest assured that this particular obliteration by Head will be remembered by all for aeons to come.
