Venkatesh Prasad has always been bluntly vocal regarding his views on the game he has served all his life. The former speedster again took to his social media handle to express his point of view, reflecting on how the year 2023 fared for the Indian cricket team. In his post, Prasad hoped for the team to do better in 2024, as the Karnataka-born wants India to win championships.

According to Prasad, the year 2023 started with a lot of hopes, as India were hot favourites to win not one, but three major ICC tournaments. Firstly, India lost the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa, followed by the disappointing loss of the Men's team in the World Test Championship final against Australia. Lastly, India won all the matches in the ODI World Cup until they met the Pat Cummins-led side in the final at Ahmedabad.

"It’s been a year of “What could have been” for Team India. Dominated the World Cup only to have a very bad day when it mattered in the finals. Lost the WTC finals as well. Travis Head was brilliant in both these games. Hope in the coming year, India starts winning Championships which has alluded them for more than a decade now. Wishing the best for Team India in the coming year and always," Prasad wrote on X.

Although the Rohit Sharma-led side did win the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, it were the losses in ICC tournaments that led to Prasad's heartbreak. The 54-year-old also lavished praise on Travis Head, who was at his best in the WTC final, as well as the World Cup. Prasad opined that Indian team lost grip on the match when it mattered the most. Next, India will be seen featuring in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the USA and the West Indies. Thus, Prasad wants the team to focus on winning key tournaments by putting their best foot forward.
