Hayley Matthews displayed immense composure to aid Mumbai Indians Women to a nine-run victory in Match 19 of the Women's Premier League 2025 clash against Gujarat Giants Women on Monday, March 10. The batting all-rounder was handed the ball for her final over in the last over of the game when Gujarat required 13 for victory.

Matthews ended up conceding only three runs. Her first two dismissals were what set the game up for the hosts. Simran Shaikh's first delivery of the over was a massive miscue. The West Indian fluffed the skier by not getting her hands on the ball. However, her sharp presence of mind effected a run-out at the non-striker's end. On the very next delivery, a fizzy back-of-a-length delivery was enough to rattle Shaikh's stumps.

Matthews bagged her third dismissal of the game off the final delivery. Priya Mishra was stumped by Yastika Bhatia to grant Mumbai a nine-run win in a tense WPL 2025 clash. The victory ensured Mumbai's unbeaten streak against Gujarat in the WPL held firm. Earlier in the game, Matthews had scored 27 off 22 deliveries.

Fulmali's standout showing goes unrewarded

Gujarat were in all sorts of trouble at 70/5 in the 11th over. Bharti Fulmali came out to the middle, replacing Phoebe Litchfield. Her splendid 25-ball 61-run knock was instrumental in keeping the game alive. She became only the second batter in the history of the WPL to score a half-century while batting at No.7 or lower.

Chasing 180 for the win, Gujarat had a forgettable start to their run chase. Their top four batters only contributed 41 runs to the scoreboard, with Harleen Deol scoring 24 of them. Skipper Ashleigh Gardner, after conceding only 27 runs in her four-over spell, fell for a two-ball duck.
