The high-octane Women's Premier League (WPL 2025) final did not fail to grip the global women's cricket audiences as the game witnessed a thrilling start. Notably, hosts Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) clashed with Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) in the summit clash, at the renowned Brabourne Stadium, in Mumbai, in what turned out to be a blockbuster weekend for cricket lovers.
After winning the toss, DC-W captain Meg Lanning decided to bowl first. the decision was justified by all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who made a perfect setup to dismiss the big-hitting all-rounder, Hayley Matthews. Kapp operated with the new ball almost to perfection as per the playing conditions. Though the pitch was good enough for batters to spend some time and make the most of it, however, the South African set the stage ablaze with her cricketing brilliance.
The highlight of the day happened in the third over of MI-W's innings. Matthews who has been in sublime form with the bat in the ongoing tournament, started with an early vigil. However, Kapp was successful in getting one of her deliveries to swing back late into the West Indies-based batter, resulting in playing all over around it. As a result, the perfect line and length, coupled with a late swing did the trick and left Matthews stunned as the ball rattled her leg stump. The magnitude of dismissal seemed quite big as the Mumbai camp was left stunned and silent. At that point, the team score was just five runs.
