Virat Kohli meets family members upon reaching Delhi after T20 World Cup win
Virat Kohli won the Player of the Match award in the T20 World Cup 2024 final for his gritty half-century.
Virat Kohli met his family members in Delhi after the Indian Cricket Team landed in the Capital on Thursday, July 4, five days after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
The Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the finals of the showpiece event on June 29 to end an 11-year-long wait for an ICC title. This was also their second T20 World Cup triumph and first in 17 years. Kohli, who went into the tournament on the back of a stellar Indian Premier League (IPL) season, couldn't replicate his form until the title clash.
After India lost their top-order inside the powerplay at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, the onus was on the talismanic batter to bail his team out of trouble. Kohli forged fifty-plus stands with Axar Patel and Shivam Dube to resurrect the Indian innings. Eventually, the 35-year-old finished with a gritty 76-run knock off 59 balls, belting six fours and two sixes. The Asian giants posted 176/7 in their 20 overs before restricting the Proteas to 169/8, winning the pulsating clash by seven runs to send their fans into a frenzy.
Rohit Sharma and Co. had to wait for their return back home with the trophy as Hurricane Beryl's threat forced several airports to temporarily stop functioning. Finally, on Thursday, the contingent managed to land in Delhi after boarding a charter flight, which was specifically arranged for them by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
After landing in his hometown, former India captain Kohli met his relatives. The heartwarming family photo has received a lot of love from fans on social media.
