After a rough patch with the bat in Tests, Shubman Gill re-announced himself with a brilliant 87-run knock in the first ODI against England of February 6. Coming into bat when India lost quick wickets, the batter paired with Shreyas Iyer to forge a match-altering partnership which helped India recover and chase the target comfortably.

Moving from his usual position as an opener, Gill batted at number three, courtesy of Virat Kohli’s unavailability due to a knee issue. The batter was adjudged Player of the Match and got the much-needed moral boost ahead of impending Champions Trophy 2025. Having spent much time batting with Rohit Sharma and Kohli in the top order, the youngster provided insights into the approach of two of best Indian batters in the current generation.

“Everyone has different qualities. I think Virat bhai is more aggressive and instinctive; whatever he feels, he does it straight away. Rohit bhai, on the other hand, thinks a lot more before changing any plan. He gives a little more time to the current plan before moving on to the next one,” said Gill speaking to Star Sports.

Hardik bhai has a lot of confidence: Gill

Another close link of Indian batting lineup in their pursuit to absolute dominance is all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The right-handed batter is equally impactful with the bat as he does with the ball and counter attacks when the team needs him to bring his power hitter out. Speaking of him, Gill noted that the 31-year-old is keen to dominate the opposition whenever he takes the field.

“Hardik bhai has a lot of confidence, is flamboyant, and tries to dominate when he's on the field. He constantly encourages everyone to dominate and not let the other team have a chance. I’ve learned a lot from all three," Gill concluded.
