Virat Kohli's old tweet resurfaces as the milestone man continues to climb the mountain called greatness

In India's 243-run victory over South Africa in their ICC World Cup 2023 encounter, Virat Kohli tied the record of 49 one-day international hundreds held by the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. After Kohli achieved his 49th century, a 13-year-old tweet of him on social media went viral. He is currently aiming for a 50th ODI ton world record. With the Indian team's next fixture with the Netherlands, he has a great opportunity to achieve the feat.

After being dismissed for 88 in the Sri Lanka game, Kohli struck an unbeaten 101 to ensure that India defeated the mighty-looking Proteas with a massive total of 243 runs victory. For Kohli to record his 49th century, 277 innings were needed. Remarkably, in 2009, he had also achieved his first-ever century in an ODI at the same venue. In an old tweet of his, he had expressed his desire to make a lot of runs for India on X (previously Twitter). Posted on March 16, 2010, he wrote, "Looking forward to scoring lots of runs for my team."

When asked about his feelings after matching Sachin Tendulkar's record and his response to Sachin congratulating him on reaching the milestone, the "run machine" opened up during the post-match presentation. He reminisced about watching the little master as a child and how emotional it was to equal his records.

“It is all too much for me to take in now, to equal my hero’s record is something special for me. He is perfection when it comes to batting. But I am never going to be as good as him… It’s a very emotional moment for me, I know where I come from. I know the days where I have been watched him on TV, and just to get that appreciation from him means a lot to me,” said Kohli.

Sachin Tendulkar hopes Virat will break his record sooner than ever 

The India No.3, who at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata tied the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record with a century, is about to surpass his idol's record in one-day internationals. While it took Sachin 452 innings, Kohli needed 175 fewer innings to attain the milestone. Tendulkar shared a post on X following the Delhi batter's record-tying performance. The legendary batter expressed his hope that his old teammate would soon shatter the mark.

"It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 (years old) earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations," wrote the legendary batter.
