The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is easily one of the most iconic venues in the country to play cricket. Over the years, there have been many memorable matches played at the venue, with the first semi-final of the ongoing ODI World Cup being one of them as well.

The Wankhede Stadium also became the venue where ace Indian batter Virat Kohli broke the record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and scored his 50th ODI century.

As Kohli walked up the stairs of the stadium after being dismissed against New Zealand, the Twitter account of Royal Challengers Bangalore shared a picture of Kohli walking up the stairs and compared it to Sachin walking down them in the final Test match of his career.

The marvellous performance of Kohli saw the Wankhede crowd stunned. Surpassing the great Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli now sits at the top of the list of the batters with the most ODI centuries. Scoring 117 runs in 113 deliveries, the 35-year-old’s knock ensured that the Men in Blue posted a big total on the scoreboard in the first innings for New Zealand to chase down.

Mohammed Shami’s brilliance propelled India to the World Cup final

Aiming to defend a target of 398 runs, India can owe their brilliant win to ace pacer Mohammed Shami. Dismissing the majority of the Kiwi batters, Shami stamped his authority on the game.

The 33-year-old took seven wickets and conceded 57 runs in the 9.5 overs that he bowled. Winning the Player of the Match award, Shami’s performance saw him garner praise from every corner of the world, with even Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking to social media to applaud his performance in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023
