The North Group clash of the Vitality T20 Blast 2024 between Lancashire and Northamptonshire didn't favor the home team in Manchester. The top-of-the-table encounter ultimately saw Northamptonshire emerge victorious, securing a four-wicket win while chasing a lofty 202 for victory. Nevertheless, the match will be commemorated by Lancashire's batting all-rounder, Steven Croft, as well as the devoted spectators present at the venue, as the 39-year-old veteran attained membership in an exclusive echelon during the game.
Croft, a native of Blackpool, Lancashire, in his 249th T20 match while representing his hometown club, became only the fourth batter in the annals of the Blast to inscribe his name in the esteemed 5000-run club. He joins the ranks of James Vince, Joe Denly, and Luke Wright in this illustrious category.
This notable milestone was achieved during the 14th over of the first innings, when Croft adroitly executed a cut shot off a wide, flat delivery from left-arm wrist-spinner, Freddie Heldreich, sending the ball gracefully to the backward point boundary.
