Wanted MS Dhoni to finish on a high if it was his last: Irfan Pathan
CSK defeated GT to clinch the IPL title for the record fifth time.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) for the record-equalling fifth time after beating Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After winning the game, the CSK skipper stated that, while this is the perfect time to call it quits, he will try to play the next season as a 'gift' to his supporters. The 41-year-old added that the way fans have expressed their love throughout the season was something special to him and that he owes them something in return.
Former India bowler Irfan Pathan took to Twitter and praised Dhoni after the CSK skipper won the IPL title for the fifth time. Irfan said that he wanted the former India skipper to finish the game on a high note if it was his last and that he is pleased that Dhoni will play again next season.
"Wanted him to finish on a high if it was his last, but hopefully he is coming back next season. What a champion he has been. Was emotional calling the last game for this man @msdhoni," Irfan Pathan tweeted.

Jadeja's last-over heroics help CSK beat GT in IPL 2023 final
Speaking about the game, CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and invited GT to bat first. GT set a mammoth 215-run target for Chennai, the highest-ever score in an IPL final, thanks to Sai Sudharsan's 47-ball 96 runs and keeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha's 54 off 39 deliveries. For Chennai, Matheesha Pathirana grabbed two wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja bagged one.
The second innings was reduced to 15 overs after the rain stopped play, leaving CSK with 171 runs to chase. During the chase, Chennai got off to an electric start thanks to the opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Meanwhile, it was Jadeja who finished off in style, smashing a six and a boundary in the final two balls when CSK needed ten runs to win the game. For GT, Mohit Sharma claimed a three-wicket haul, while Noor Ahmad picked two.
