Wasim Jaffer picks his squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Wasim Jaffer took to X and posted his Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. As many experts are revealing their squad for the major ICC tournament, the former PBKS coach expressed his opinion regarding the same. The Indian squad for the major T20 tournament is likely to be announced soon. The selections are likely to be based on the performances of the players in the last few months and in the ongoing IPL.

It is a good squad to start with. At the top of the order, the squad has some seasoned campaigners like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit will be the skipper of the team. Virat with his experience and record in the T20 WC 2024 will be crucial. Despite the lackluster IPL season for Jaiswal, Jaffer seems to trust the youngster given his record in international cricket. He is likely to be the backup opener in the side.

Suryakumar Yadav has also made it to the squad of Jaffer. The star player is one of the most aggressive batters in the world. Wasim has picked two WK batters in the side. Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson both of whom are in brilliant form in the IPL 2024 have made it to Jaffer's squad. Most of these players are likely to start in the XI, barring one of the two wicketkeepers who are likely to be used as a backup option. 

Quality all-rounders and seasoned bowlers in the squad

Jaffer's squad has two quality all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. The concern regarding Hardik is his fitness and form of late. He is probably being picked due to his reputation and past records. Shivam has been one of the best batters in the ongoing IPL. The southpaw would have liked to get a bit of bowling, but the impact player rule has meant that he has not bowled for CSK. Both are likely to be in the starting XI of India.

Rinku Singh and Ravindra Jadeja are being picked as the designated finishers in the side. Rinku has been one of the best finishers in the world in the last two years. The southpaw can also be handy with his part-time bowling. Ravindra Jadeja will be one of the key players for India in the tournament. The experienced player has made it to Jaffer's side as a genuine spin-bowling all-rounder. His finishing abilities are a matter of concern.

The former Indian batter has gone with two different kinds of leg spinners. He has Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad. While Kuldeep has been the best spinner in the IPL 2024 with his ability to take wickets and contain runs at the same time, Chahal has gone on to have yet another good season with the ball.

In the pace bowling department, the Indian domestic legend has the seasoned trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh in his squad. Bumrah will be the leader of the attack and is likely to bowl in the end powerplay overs and the death overs. Arshdeep and Siraj are likely picked up due to their ability to bowl in the powerplay overs. The spinners can operate well in the middle overs and the pacers can have their say at the start and the end of the play.
