Day 1 of the second Test between Pakistan and the West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium was a thrill-a-minute ride filled with much action. 36-year-old Kemar Roach's athletic effort was one of the highlights as he took a stunner to dismiss Saud Shakeel.
After being rolled over for 163 in the first innings on a rank turner, West Indies bowled well to reduce Pakistan to 51/4 on Saturday, January 25. However, Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan joined forces to stitch an important partnership which settled the nerves in the Pakistan camp. They added 68 runs for the fifth wicket as the West Indies players' shoulders were slowly starting to drop.
Shakeel, who had been playing cautiously, tried to break the shackles by hitting a boundary off Jomel Warrican in the 35th over. The southpaw danced down the track and tried to chip the left-arm spinner for a boundary in the mid-wicket region. However, he hit the ball straighter than he would have liked and this allowed Roach, who was stationed at long-on, to run to his left and take a tumbling catch.
The West Indies needed a moment of brilliance to lift their spirits and the experienced speedster provided just that. In the process of taking the catch, Roach seemed to have hurt his groin and he subsequently walked off the field. However, the wounded warrior's effort turned out to be a shot in the arm for the West Indies as they took the last six Pakistani wickets for just 35 runs.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan had West Indies on the mat at 54/8 after losing the toss. However, Gudakesh Motie scored a brilliant half-century and received good support from Roach and Warrican as the Caribbean side got to a fighting total of 163. Noman Ali was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan as he bagged a six-for, which included a hat-trick.
