WATCH: Ashton Agar bats with one hand following shoulder injury in Sheffield Shield

Western Australia spinner Ashton Agar batted one-handed briefly against Victoria in the ongoing Sheffield Shield 2024-25. Notably, the hosts were reduced to 310/9 in the second innings when Agar joined Joel Curtis in the middle. The 31-year-old was expected to sit out after hurting his shoulder the day before but he showed bravery to bat in the middle and stitched a 15-run partnership with Curtis, who by then completed his century.

Agar played only five balls in the second innings and the Victoria bowlers were not kind to him despite the injury. He was welcomed with a bouncer, which hit his arm. Later, he defended a couple of balls and took blows on his body, before Sam Elliott cleared him up. However, his effort to bat for the team despite being injured garnered massive praise on social media.

Meanwhile, Victoria defeated Western Australia by eight wickets. In the first innings, the Ashton Turner-led side struggled with the bat, registering only 167. Todd Murphy had an excellent outing, picking up four wickets for the hosts. Victoria, in reply, made 373 in the second innings to Western Australia on the backfoot.

The visitors fought better in the second innings, as Curtis scored a century and Hilton Cartwright made 78 but it wasn’t enough. Elliott had an outstanding day, picking up four wickets as Western Australia made 325.

Victoria had no trouble in chasing as Marcus Harris and Handscomb scored a century each. They were reduced to 19/2 at one stage and that might have given Western Australia some confidence but Victoria eventually chased down rhe target.

With the win, Victoria moved to the top of the points table while Western Australia are second, behind by just 0.1 points. Both teams have won two, drew once and lost one so far.
