On the third day of the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan at Newlands, all-rounder Wiaan Mulder aggressively threw the ball at star batter Babar Azam, triggering a heated moment between the two, requiring intervention from players and umpires alike.
The incident occurred during the 32nd over of Pakistan’s follow-on innings. Facing a 421-run first-innings deficit, the visitors were fighting hard to recover. Babar who was on the crease along with captain Shan Masood, played a strong drive back at Mulder, who collected the ball and threw it at the right-hander's foot in his follow-through. Although Babar was slightly outside his crease, the throw was far from a legitimate run-out attempt.
Following this Babar exchanged words with Mulder, visibly unhappy with the unnecessary aggression. The on-field umpires along with Aiden Markram and Masood intervened to calm their respective players, ensuring the game continued.

Babar Azam misses out on well-deserved century
In the match, Babar and Masood together stitched a brilliant 205-run opening stand, a record opening partnership for Pakistan against South Africa in Tests. Masood anchored the innings with an unbeaten century (102*), while Babar missed out on a well-deserved ton at 81.
The duo’s effort helped Pakistan to bounce back after a disappointing first innings, where South African bowlers, including Mulder, Kagiso Rabada, and debutant Kwena Maphaka, dismantled the middle order. While Babar’s innings ended just before stumps when he edged Marco Jansen to gully Masood's unbeaten knock ensured Pakistan ended the day at 213/1, trailing by 208 runs.
