Sarfaraz Khan was not the only one chuffed on reaching his maiden international ton in the first Test of the three-match series between India and New Zealand. His teammates as well as the support staff rose to their feet in the dressing room, gleaming with joy and pride as the middle-order batter completed a victory lap while holding his bat and helmet afloat.
The BCCI wasted no time in assembling a montage of two moments nine years and 176 days apart. However, there were a couple of common elements in both the videos - Sarfaraz and Virat Kohli. One was from the 2015 edition of the Indian Premier League, while the other from the active game between India and the Black Caps.

Kohli & Co. burst in laughter and celebration on being witness to Sarfaraz's extravagant celebration while the video from 2015 was something which evoked a wave of nostalgia. It was from a match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals played at the same venue, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The then 17-year-old Sarfaraz, playing just his fourth IPL game, was coming off the field with RCB's innings coming to a close after playing a blinder (45* off 21). Kohli, the skipper of the franchise at that time, was seen greeting Sarfaraz with a namaste, before patting him on his back as he powered RCB to the 200-run mark.

Sarfaraz, Pant make merry while making New Zealand toil
Coming to the game between India and New Zealand, the hosts have established a commendable foundation for themselves after a forgettable first innings in which they were wrapped up for just 46. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Kohli couldn't capitalise on their starts in the second innings but Sarfaraz and Rishabh Pant surely did.

Sarfaraz racked up 150 off 195 ballsm including 18 fours and three sixes while Pant missed a well-deserved century rather agonisingly, as he played on William O'Rourke on 99 to record his seventh nervous-ninety in the format to go with as six centuries.
