The final delivery of the 26th over in India's run-chase against Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 saw ace Indian batter, Virat Kohli, get dropped by Australian all-rounder and former Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate, Glenn Maxwell.

The broadcasters' cameras panned straightaway to capture Bollywood actress and Kohli's wife Anushka Sharma, whose reaction to the moment was priceless and she seemed to be naturally happy for her husband getting to bat more. She was spotted having a hearty laugh at the crucial chance which was shelled off Cooper Connolly's bowling. Notably, Kohli and Maxwell have developed a strong bond during their shared stint at RCB in the Indian Premier League.

In an attempt to whip the ball towards long-on, Kohli closed the bat face a bit too early to produce a leading edge. Maxwell, stationed at short mid-off, hurled himself to his right to hang on to the ball. However, the ball did not stick to his right hand as the half-chance went a begging. It is noteworthy to mention that Connolly moving to his left might have distracted Maxwell from making his move a bit more promptly.

Kohli registers 74th ODI half-century, India progress towards target

Kohli made an early entry to the middle after the departure of Shubman Gill in the fifth over. Skipper Rohit Sharma departed three overs later, with India in a spot of bother while chasing 265. Kohli combined seamlessly with Shreyas Iyer to forge a 91-run partnership.

Iyer was dismissed after getting cleaned up by Adam Zampa, a couple of overs after Kohli notched up his 74th ODI half-century. At the time of writing, India are 200/4 at the end of 40 overs, requiring another 65 runs with six wickets in hand. The winner of this contest will take on either South Africa or New Zealand in the final of the marquee ODI tournament on Sunday, March 9.
