United States of America took on England in Match 49 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 23. USA were having a decent outing after scoring 48 runs for the loss of two wickets in the powerplay. England managed to pull the strings and displayed a great bowling effort Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid dismantled the USA’s middle order. But the cherry on the cake was Chris Jordan’s hat-trick in the 19th over.
Jordan was at miserly best in his first two overs, conceding just 10 runs. But his third over proved to be a catastrophe for USA as he sent well-set Corey Anderson on the first ball. He then bowled a dot ball and cleaned up Ali Khan on the third delivery. The subsequent delivery caught Nosthush Kenjige plumb in front of the wicket and the hat-trick ball dislodged Saurabh Netravalkar’s timber as he tried to play outside. The pacer picked four wickets having bowled just 2.5 overs.

Jordan’s last moment induction paid dividend for England
England made a significant change to their playing XI ahead of the game. Jos Buttler revealed that Mark Wood was rested and Jordan was brought in at his expense. The move turned out to be a favorable one for the defending champions as Buttler stressed bowling first avoiding hassle starting with the bat early in the morning.

“We will bowl first. An early morning start, it will be tacky to start, that's the reason to bowl. Everyone's good and getting ready, has been a quick turnaround. We got a tough game, USA have played some tough cricket. We know what we have to do. I think the boys have bowled well, hopefully today's the day. Jordan comes in for Wood,” said Buttler at the toss.
