Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were crowned the Indian Premier League (IPL) champions for the third time, as they outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad in all facets of the game on Sunday, May 26, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After the monumental win, former KKR star, Chris Gayle, celebrated in style and congratulated fellow Caribbean players—Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.

Gayle played for KKR in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the IPL. In a video uploaded on social media, the former Knight Rider was seen singing and dancing to the popular song—'Danza Kuduro', as he congratulated his former franchise and West Indies teammates.

The IPL 2024 final turned out to be a one-sided affair, as KKR ruled the roost from the get-go, after Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first. Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora breathed fire with the new ball, as they dismissed the dangerous opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head inside the first couple of overs. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals for SRH, as they lost half their side for just 62 runs inside 11 overs.

Russell bagged three wickets and the spin-bowling pair of Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy also kept the batters in check. Harshit Rana also stood out with a two-for and also bowled the only maiden in the match. The Orange Army huffed and puffed their way to 113, being dismissed in 18.3 overs.

Cummins got the wicket of the dangerous Narine in the first over but Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer combined to register an electrifying 91-run partnership off 45 balls to take KKR to the brink. After the Afghanistan cricketer departed for a 32-ball 39, captain Shreyas Iyer walked out to the middle. Venkatesh hit the winning runs, finishing on an individual score of 52* off just 26, as KKR won with eight wickets and 57 balls to spare.
