WATCH: Glenn Maxwell's outrageous reverse sweep against Shaheen Afridi for six

Glenn Maxwell wreaked havoc in the first T20I against Pakistan at Gabba after the game was reduced to seven overs a side due to rain. Maxwell did not waste time and went about business from the very first ball he faced. The flamboyant batter started with a reverse sweep against Naseem Shah in the second over but it was his six against Shaheen Afridi that stunned the spectators.

In the fourth over of the game, Maxwell reverse-swept the Pakistan pacer for a cracking six over third-man. The former captain bowled a short of a length delivery and Maxwell punished it by timing it well. There was nothing that the bowler could have done as the all-rounder played a phenomenal shot to hit the maximum.

Notably, Australia’s openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short failed to make a mark. Australia needed someone to take charge after the game was shortened and Maxwell did that in style, smashing 43 runs off 19 deliveries. He hit five boundaries and three maximums before Abbas Afridi got the better of him. 

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis played an important cameo as well, smashing 21 runs off seven deliveries. Courtesy of their power-hitting, Australia posted 93 in the first innings.

Pakistan bowlers, on the other hand, looked clueless against Maxwell and Stoinis. They managed to pick wickets at regular intervals but Maxwell’s wicket came a little too late. Youngster Naseem ended up leaking 37 runs in two overs while Shaheen conceded 25. 

The visitors will have to play an aggressive brand of cricket but it has been their biggest problem as of late. The seniors will have to take responsibility and bat well for them to get the job done.
