Glenn Maxwell stunned cricket enthusiasts around the world with his mind-boggling effort on the boundary line to dismiss Will Prestwidge in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 clash between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars on Wednesday, January 1, at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane.

The incident happened in the first ball of the 17th over in the first innings after Melbourne won the toss and opted to bowl first. England's Dan Lawrence bowled a flighted delivery in the slot to left-handed batter Prestwidge. The southpaw tried to clear the ropes over the bowler's head. Maxwell, who was stationed at long-on, rushed to his right, whilst keeping his eyes on the ball. He jumped over the boundary rope and caught the ball in his right hand before tossing it back into the playing area. The 36-year-old rushed back into the field to complete the catch using both hands.

Prestwidge, who had only scored four runs from nine balls before that delivery, went for the big shot to break the shackles. He might have gotten away with a six had there been any other fielder positioned at long-on instead of Maxwell.

Lawrence, Stoinis orchestrate comprehensive win for Stars

Brisbane recovered from a precarious position at 39/4 in the eighth over to finish at 149/7. Max Bryant played an unbeaten knock of 77 off 48 balls and held the Brisbane innings together.

In reply, Stars lost three wickets for 14 runs in the fourth over. However, a 132-run partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Lawrence helped the visitors win with five wickets and 11 balls to spare. Stoinis (62) and Maxwell (0) were dismissed in quick succession towards the end. However, Lawrence and Hilton Cartwright took their team home.
