Glenn Phillips decided to amaze the cricket fraternity once again with his extraordinary athleticism during the 2025 Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After taking two one-handed stunners at backward point to dismiss Mohammad Rizwan and Virat Kohli in the group stage, Phillips showed that he is equally good in other positions of the ground. New Zealand were in desperate need of a breakthrough, as India had already raced to 105 in the 19th over without the loss of a wicket. They needed something special in the field to break the opening stand, and Phillips delivered.

Mitchell Santner bowled a flighted delivery on off-stump and Gill drilled the drive towards cover. It seemed as if the ball would reach the boundary in no time, but Phillips dived high in the air, just to his right, and grabbed the ball with one hand. The reaction time for the catch was just 0.78 seconds. However, Phillips made it look very easy with his exemplary fielding skills.

Kohli, Rohit out in quick succession as Kiwis keep fight on

Phillips' stunning effort brought Virat Kohli to the crease. The in-form batter, however, got dismissed for one after facing two balls as he was out LBW to Michael Bracewell. Kohli took the DRS but it returned with three reds as New Zealand were cock-a-whoop.

The Blackcaps applied pressure on new batter Shreyas Iyer and Rohit Sharma, who had raced to a breathtaking half-century, was also struggling to find the gaps. New Zealand bowled several dot balls during this phase. Rohit tried to break the shackles by hitting Rachin Ravindra out of the park. However, he was out stumped by Tom Latham after failing to account for the turn. The partnership between Rohit and Shreyas yielded just 16 runs off 42 deliveries. From 105/0 in the 19th over, the Asian giants slumped to 122/3 in the 27th.
