Ace pacer Harshit Rana made his international debut in the first Test against Australia in Perth. The youngster proved slightly expensive but picked up four wickets in the match as India won the game by 295 runs. Ahead of the upcoming Test in Adelaide, the Rohit Sharma-led side featured in a warm-up game against Prime Minister XI, where Harshit picked up four wickets in six balls to clear the middle order.

The 22-year-old struggled initially with his line and length as he focused more on bowling short ones. Later, he switched to bowling full and that gave him the result. Batting at number four, Jack Clayton looked settled in the middle, having scored 40 runs but in the 23rd over of the game, Harshit cleaned him up with a peach of a delivery. It was similar to how he got Travis Head out in the first Test.

In the final delivery of the over, he got the better of Oliver Davies, who failed to open his tally. Harshit pitched well and Davies missed the line completely as the wickets went tossing. In the first ball of his next over, Rana picked up the wicket of captain Jack Edwards and in the third delivery, Sam Harper was sent back to pavilion. Australia were 133/6 and were under immense pressure before Test probable Sam Konstas hit an incredible century at Manuka Oval.

India rested Jasprit Bumrah as the team management is working on managing his workload. In his absence, Harshit has done a commendable job and will be key for India in the upcoming Pink Ball Test. Despite the win in the first Test, the visitors will be under pressure ahead of the Adelaide Test, especially as Australia have never lost a day-and-night Test at home. The last time India played, they were bundled for only 36 runs in the second innings.
