WATCH - IND vs ENG 2025: India's magical fielding undoes England openers
Salt and Duckett led their side to a quick start before the two got dismissed in successive overs.
Two moments of brilliance sent back England openers to the shed during the ongoing first ODI of the three-match series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Opting to bat first, England got off to a solid start; the tourists were placed at 71/0 at the end of eight overs.
Phil Salt was the first batter to get dismissed. Slicing an outside off delivery past backward point, Salt was eager for a third run. However, a fusion of a fine fielding effort by Shreyas Iyer and a terrible mix-up brought the end of Salt. Iyer did superbly well to successfully cut ball off before it touched the boundary rope and launch a flat throw right at the top of the stumps for wicketkeeper KL Rahul to do the rest.
The second English wicket was a combined effort by the two debutants, Harshit Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ben Duckett's miscued pull went high in the air and was plucked by another left-handed top-order batter. Sprinting back from midwicket, Jaiswal hung on to the half-opportunity through a full-length dive.

India restrict England during middle-phase as visitors creep along
The phase from the 10th to the 40th over belonged to India. Despite Jos Buttler's half-century, England could not find any other batter to stick around for a long enough time as the spinners tightened the noose around England. Meanwhile, in his comeback match for the ODI setup, Mohammed Shami secured his first wicket of the day. Brydon Carse's stumps were knocked over by a length delivery to leave England in further misery.
