Rajat Patidar was greeted with a thunderous reception as he was in the middle for the toss during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first home game of the season during the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League on Wednesday, April 2. Patidar, RCB's new skipper, drew an electrifying reaction from the crowd while being introduced by the toss representative, New Zealand's Danny Morrison.

This comes after Kohli, former skipper and ace batter of RCB, urged the home crowd to back their new skipper and also predicted that the middle-order batter would occupy the position for a long time during the RCB Unbox Event ahead of the ongoing season. A few moments later, Patidar shared that the love and support RCB have received from the home crowd has been incredible.

Unfortunately, the toss did not go the hosts' way. Shubman Gill opted to field first. The decision was justified for the majority of the first innings. RCB ended up registering 169/8 at the end of 20 overs. The powerplay belonged to the tourists, who secured three wickets and conceded only 38.

Jitesh Sharma (33 off 21) steadied the innings alongside Liam Livingstone (54 off 40). The English batting all-rounder accelerated in the latter part of his innings. A motoring surge by Tim David (32 off 18) at the business end led RCB to the aforementioned total.

Former RCB player Mohammed Siraj was the standout performer for GT. He secured a precious three-wicket haul to his name (3/19 in four overs). Sai Kishore was another star performer. The left-arm spinner conceded only 22 runs in his allotted quota while picking up a couple of wickets.
