[Watch] IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi's 'notebook' celebration brings back memories of Virat Kohli-Kesrick Williams exchange
Digvesh Rathi dismissed Priyansh Arya in the IPL 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) before pulling out the notebook celebration.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) turned out to be a one-sided encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, April 1. However, there were some interesting moments from the match, which Punjab won by eight wickets.
Chasing a target of 172, Punjab got off to a brisk start thanks to Prabhsimran Singh, who took the attack to the LSG bowlers from the outset. However, fellow opener Priyansh Arya did not have a memorable outing. He was dismissed by leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi in the third over. The southpaw, who burst onto the scene after hitting six sixes in an over in the Delhi Premier League, tried to pull Rathi to the on-side for a boundary. However, he only managed a top-edge. Shardul Thakur ran to his right from mid-on and took a comfortable catch to dismiss the batter.
As Arya turned back and was making his way back to the pavilion, Rathi ran towards him and brought out the notebook celebration. The gesture brought back memories of former West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams' signature celebration, which he used to do after dismissing batters. Williams did the same in 2017 after dismissing Virat Kohli. However, the legendary batter famously responded with the same celebration after taking the speedster to the cleaners in Hyderabad in 2019.
The umpire spoke with Rathi after the incident. It seemed that the bowler was asked not to repeat the controversial celebration. Interestingly, Rathi and Arya represent Delhi in domestic cricket. So, there is a high chance that there was no animosity in the 25-year-old's celebration; it might have only been fun banter from him. Fans will be waiting to see how Arya responds when the two teams meet each other once again in the latter half of the tournament.

Following Arya's dismissal, Prabhsimran smashed a blistering half-century before being out for 69 off 34 deliveries. Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera remained unbeaten on 52 (30) and 43 (25), respectively, as PBKS romped home in 16.2 overs.
