Ravichandran Ashwin was welcomed back to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in fine style by his boyhood Indian Premier League franchise, Chennai Super Kings. Through a truly heartwarming clip, they portrayed Ashwin's journey from once being a child dreaming to play at the iconic Chepauk to finally getting the chance to represent the now-joint-most successful franchise in the history of the IPL.

The clip was wrapped up in a way that it was fitting full-circle moment with a bunch of children running past Ashwin, with the star cricketer walking past the enthused children while donning the CSK jersey for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

Ashwin represented CSK for a total of seven seasons. His spell with the now-joint-most-title-holding franchise saw him scalp 80 wickets in 97 matches (94 innings) at an economy rate of 7.05. The 2011 edition has been Ashwin's greatest in terms of wicket tally (20 wickets in 16 innings). He was an integral component of the Men in Yellow's title triumphs in 2010 and 2011.

While CSK became defunct in 2016 and 2017, Ashwin went on to represent four other franchises by and beyond 2017. Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals were the four sides Ashwin played for other than Ashwin. Apart from the IPL, the recently retired Indian cricketing legend has played 24 Champions League Twenty20 games for the franchise.

Ashwin was neither retained by RR ahead of the tournament, nor bought back during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. CSK purchased Ashwin for INR 9.75 crore during the auction. Amongst a few others, he will be reuniting with former Indian and CSK teammate, Ravindra Jadeja, who has been with the franchise since the 2018 edition.
