A sharp bouncer from Royal Challengers Bengaluru's spin-bowling all-rounder, Krunal Pandya, took to Kolkata Knight Riders' vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer by surprise during the IPL 2025 opener at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22.

The unusual moment came on the first delivery of the 13th over of KKR's innings. Krunal, bowling from left-arm-around, switched it up by sending down a fiery short-pitched bumper to the southpaw. The delivery was called a wide for being too high and a touch down the leg-side. Jitesh Sharma did exceedingly well to act promptly and save what would have been byes otherwise.

Interestingly, Krunal dismissed Iyer off the very next delivery as the latter inside-edged a 101 kph skidder onto the stumps. Iyer was Krunal's second dismissal. He ended as the most successful bowler for RCB, conceding only 29 runs in his four-over quota for three wickets.

Rahane, Narine take KKR to 174

As far as the first innings is concerned, Sunil Narine and skipper Ajinkya Rahane lay a sensational platform with their power-hitting after Quinton de Kock departed early. Rahane struck six fours and four sixes in his 31-ball 56 while Narine amassed 44 off 26 with five fours and three sixes. However, both of them departed in successive overs and their dismissals applied the brakes to the KKR innings.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored 30 off 22 deliveries while Rinku Singh contributed 12. However, none of the other batters could add much. Andre Russell fell for just four while Ramandeep Singh remained unbeaten on six off nine deliveries, as KKR ended their 20 overs on 174/8 after 20 overs.
