MS Dhoni was seen extending encouraging feedback to IPL debutant, Vignesh Puthur, after the conclusion of Match 3 of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 23. The 24-year-old debutant starred with the ball for MI in a losing cause, scalping a three-wicket haul in his four-over spell.
The seasoned veteran was spotted patting the budding talent's shoulder while spending a few moments interacting with him during the handshakes exchanged by the members of both sides as part of the customary post-match tradition. Puthur had a big smile on his face while basking in the significance of the memorable moment.

The left-arm wrist-spinner was brought on as an Impact Player in the place of Rohit Sharma at the point of commencement of the second innings of the game. Puthur, who was acquired for INR 30 lakh at the mega auction in November 2024, struck in his very first over by getting rid of the menacing presence of Ruturaj Gaikwad at the crease.
He further scalped a couple of more wickets in the overs to follow to end up with figures of 3/32 in four overs. CSK ended up clinching the game via a four-wicket margin with five deliveries to spare. Rachin Ravindra scored the winning runs for his side, registering an unbeaten 65* off 45 deliveries. It was his rapid 67-run partnership with Gaikwad (53 off 26) which set the platform for CSK.
As far as MI are concerned, their performance at Chepauk was a touch underwhelming. They could muster only 155/9 at the end of their 20 overs, courtesy of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav's 31 and 29, respectively. A late 15-ball 28-run cameo from Deepak Chahar helped too. Naman Dhir's all-around performance was of noteworthy importance too. He scored 17 off 12 deliveries and conceded only 12 runs in his three overs.
