[Watch] IPL 2025: Sandeep Sharma survives injury scare after Yashasvi Jaiswal's throw hits chest
The incident took place in the fifth ball of the sixth over of SRH's innings.
After the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the following match saw previous season finalist Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locking horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. However, a brief moment of concern occurred when RR pacer Sandeep Sharma suffered an unexpected blow to his chest. The incident occurred just after SRH’s dominating powerplay.
Despite losing the loss and being asked to bat first, SRH got off to a flying start. The Sunrisers capitalized on the batting-friendly conditions, posting 94/1 in the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal after adding 24 runs did little to slow them down, as Travis Head and Ishan Kishan continued the onslaught. Head once again looked in great touch, bringing up his fifty in just 21 balls. While RR’s bowlers struggled to contain the batting lineup, an injury scare for Sandeep briefly stopped play.
During the seventh over, the right-arm pacer was walking back to his bowling mark after delivering a ball. As he engaged in a casual conversation with Head, Yashasvi Jaiswal, stationed at long-off, collected the ball and threw it towards the stumps, unaware that Sandeep was not paying attention. The ball struck directly on his chest. The impact looked painful, with the RR medical staff quickly coming out to check on him. Fortunately, the pacer was back to his mark to finish the over and continued to bowl his overs.
