Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer couldn't complete his century against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the fifth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This happened due to a brilliant cameo by Shashank Singh, who went on to hit 22 runs in the last over against Mohammed Siraj. The batter scored 44 runs off 16 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes.
It was a magnificent batting effort from the team, as they scored 243 runs in the first innings. GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field first. PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh early on, but Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer kept the game going. While debutant Priyansh Arya also hit a 23-ball 47.
Iyer was at the non-striker's end when Shashank pulled off four boundaries against Siraj in the last over. Captain Iyer played a responsible yet entertaining knock by hitting five boundaries and nine sixes in the game. He was extremely good against the spinners but didn't spare the pacers as well.
Marcus Stoinis got a good start to his innings but couldn't convert his innings into something big. For GT, R. Sai Kishore claimed three wickets and conceded 30 runs in four overs. He got two consecutive wickets of Azmatullah Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell.

Shashank Singh gives credit to Shreyas Iyer for motivating him
PBKS middle-order batter Shashank Singh was just incredible with the bat. He pulled off a great knock after coming into bat in the 16th over. After the innings, he gave credit to Shreyas Iyer for playing an amazing knock, which motivated the batter to go after the bowlers towards the end.
"Yes, it was a good cameo. But looking at Shreyas, that motivated me even more. Let me be very honest - Shreyas, from ball one, said don't worry about my hundred! Just watching the ball and reacting to it. I try and make sure I get the boundaries. When you go at that number, it's more likely that you'll not get a good hit," said Shashank Singh after the innings.
