Virat Kohli found his groove during Match 1 of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League after he stroked a couple of consecutive sixes off Spencer Johnson's bowling during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's run-chase against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The two shots were almost identical to each other. Kohli, batting on 12 off five, ferociously drove Spencer's full-length delivery over his head for a maximum towards the straight long-off region. The very next delivery was a similar one, served up in the slot from left-arm-over again. Kohli did not miss out, this time using his wrists to guide the delivery to almost the same spot across the boundary cushion.

After a tidy first over by the Australian, he was carted for 17 courtesy of a four off the final delivery of the same over. RCB ended up scoring 80 for no loss by the end of the powerplay; their second-largest total in the first six in the history of the IPL.

KKR get restricted to 174 after explosive start

As far as the first innings of the game is concerned, KKR ended up posting a 175-run target for the tourists. This came despite them being placed at 107/2 at the end of 10 overs. An early departure of Quinton de Kock did not prevent Sunil Narine and Ajinkya Rahane to launch a relentless assualt on the RCB bowlers.

Some disciplined death-overs bowling in addition to the middle-order and lower middle-order batters not firing led KKR to a quite par total at the end. Krunal Pandya ended up as the standout bowler for RCB, picking up three wickets while conceding 29 runs in his four-over quota.
