Virat Kohli failed to make an impact in the Boxing Day Test match. The star batter is facing criticism for his performance in the five-match series as well in which he has struggled to score runs.

The Boxing Day Test match ended in favour of Australia and they have gone 2-1 up in the series with one more game to go. Though India will still have a chance to draw the series in Sydney there will still be a lot of criticism that they will face after this abysmal performance.

One of the players who is getting a substantial amount of it is Virat Kohli who was dismissed cheaply in the second innings after chasing another wide one outside off stump. Seeing this, former first-class cricketer and commentator James Brayshaw, who was on air for a radio channel, called him a nicking machine.

“GONE! He's out flashing outside off stump… out of nowhere. It's been pouched by Khawaja, and the third wicket falls. He has turned into a nicking machine," Brayshaw said.

Virat Kohli’s poor performance in Test cricket in 2024

This was a poor year of red-ball cricket for Kohli where he managed only 417 runs in 19 innings, averaging only 24.52 this season and could only manage to score one century and one half-century for his team. This current series has not been great for him as well where his average is only 27.83 and has not looked good since his performance in Perth.

Speaking of India’s position in the WTC table, this loss will not put them in a strong position and they will now be focussing on trying to draw the series and retain the BGT Trophy in Sydney to end their tour on a high.
