The contest between Jasprit Bumrah and Sam Konstas has been one of the highlights of the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The debutant showed no problem in dealing with the India pacer in the first innings as he dared to hit reverse scoops and ramps against Bumrah and found success. He eventually hit 60 runs off 65 deliveries and gave Australia a perfect start in the game.
Bumrah however wasn’t fazed by Konstas’ brilliance. Ahead of Day 3 of the Test, the 31-year-old mentioned that he could have picked up his wicket six to seven times in the first innings but he was unlucky. On the other hand, the 19-year-old was on cloud 9 after the remarkable start. He was seen clicking selfies with the fans and signing autographs on Day 1 and on Days 2 and 3, the youngster was actively taking part in engaging with the crowd.
Round 2 of Konstas and Bumrah was seen in the first session of Day 4. Konstas, who looked confident in the first three days, was clearly on the back foot as he looked to be in trouble while tackling Bumrah. The India international eventually had the last laugh as he cleared him up with an impeccable inswinger that breached his defence and went on to smash the middle stump. Bumrah meanwhile celebrated by egging up the crowd, which was exactly what Konstas was doing during India’s batting in the first innings.

Notably, Bumrah usually doesn’t celebrate his wickets as such but the rivalry against Konstas pushed him. Meanwhile, the opener departed for eight runs and after his dismissal, Usman Khawaja had the trouble playing Bumrah. The star pacer was incredible with his line and length, which bothered Khawaja but he managed to survive.
Akash Deep was handed the new ball from the other hand and he too looked good. The visitors will be hoping to wrap up Australia early and go after the win, which India desperately need to qualify for the WTC final.
