In a nail-biting ICC T20 World Cup 2024 encounter on Sunday, India secured a narrow six-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York.

The emphatic win left the Indian cricket fraternity thrilled, with BCCI secretary Jay Shah leading the celebrations after the Men in Blue successfully defended their lowest-ever total in a T20 World Cup of just 119 runs.

The tension-filled encounter had the usually reserved Shah celebrating animatedly from the stands. The BCCI Secy was no doubt overjoyed to see India defending such a modest total against their fierce rivals.

The BCCI secretary also took to X, formerly Twitter, after the match to congratulate the team for their gut-wrenching performance.

“One more WIN, and this one… means a little more! 🇮🇳 Let’s keep this going,” he wrote.

The crucial match between the two cricket giants saw fortunes fluctuate throughout the blockbuster contest. After winning the toss, the Men in Green opted to field first. India lost star batters Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply, before Rishabh Pant's 42 off 31 balls helped them post 119 from their 20 overs.

Pacers Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Amir shared eight wickets between them to restrict India's scoring. In response, Pakistan started solidly, with skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan batting carefully on a difficult track. However, the stumper-batter's dismissal for 31 off 44 balls led to a middle-order collapse.

A match-winning spell from Jasprit Bumrah of 3/14 helped, the Men in Blue put their opposition on the back foot. Arshdeep Singh held his nerves in the last over and defended 18 runs, as India extended their dominating record at the tournament with their seventh victory against Pakistan.
