In a crucial match that could potentially secure Sussex's elevation to the first division of the Vitality County Championship, Indian left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat emerged as the star performer for the county side. The paceman's remarkable figures of 4 for 52 in the first innings had led Sussex to dismantle Glamorgan for a mere 186 runs on the opening day of their encounter at Hove.

Sussex, eyeing their seventh victory of the season, made a strategic decision to bowl first on an overcast autumn morning. This choice proved crucial as Unadkat struck early, removing Asa Tribe with just his third delivery. The experienced bowler continued to wreak havoc, claiming the prized wicket of Sam Northeast by uprooting his middle stump, and giving the side another breakthrough in no time.
